Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has signed law that scrapped five Emirates and reinstated Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano.
Alongside this decision, Governor Yusuf issued a 48-hour ultimatum for deposed emirs to vacate their royal palaces.
This move follows the Kano State House of Assembly’s earlier decision to dethrone the current Emir and abolish the four new Emirates created under a controversial 2019 law. Governor Yusuf emphasized, “Kano now has one Emir.”
Currently, Kano’s kingmakers are in a closed-door meeting at the Government House to discuss these significant changes.
