The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has urged the recently reinstated 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, to leverage his authority to foster unity within the Kano Emirate.
The reinstatement comes four years after Sanusi was dethroned by the former governor, Abdullahi Ganduje. Governor Yusuf not only reappointed Sanusi but also deposed five emirs previously appointed by Ganduje, giving them a 48-hour ultimatum to vacate their official residences and palaces, with instructions to hand over all affairs to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Presenting the appointment letter to Sanusi, Governor Yusuf emphasized, “By the powers conferred on me by the Kano Emirate Council Law of 1984 and 2024, and supported by the recommendation of the kingmakers, I have the singular pleasure of confirming the reappointment of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano and the head of the Kano Emirate Council.”
Yusuf highlighted Sanusi’s reappointment as being “based on his competence, credibility, and popularity,” urging him to lead guided by Islamic principles and to use his authority to unify the emirate, fostering harmony among Islamic sects in the state.
Responding to his reinstatement, Sanusi attributed it to the will of God, asserting the inevitability of divine plans. “God is one and whatever He does, nobody can change and what He doesn’t do, nobody can. Time will not permit for long talks. Whatever we will say, we have said it when we were leaving.”
He added, “We made it clear that God has preordained time and cause for everything and everyone. He gave leadership to whom he wanted and at the time he wanted. When He gives, no one can take it away and when he takes it away, nobody can take it back.”
