Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has advised Nigerian students to pursue opportunities abroad if they wish, emphasizing that, once Nigeria is improved, those who left will be encouraged to return.
Obi shared these views during his recent visits to Peter University in Achina/Onneh and the School of Nursing Sciences, Adazi-Nnukwu, both located in Anambra State, where he made donations to support the institutions.
Addressing students at the School of Nursing Sciences in Adazi-Nnukwu, Obi highlighted his commitment to promoting institutions that cultivate skills, professionalism, and strong character.
He noted, “I was here in May this year to support you, and as I had told you, the support was to be done last year, but I couldn’t come because of electioneering, so I came in May. This is something I do every year, and today I’m here to give you my donation for this year. Those of us in public life should be able to earn public trust, and that is why I am here to do as I said.”
He further encouraged students who feel limited by Nigeria’s current challenges to seek better opportunities abroad if necessary.
“I have always told the Nursing Council not to restrict you people from travelling abroad after graduation. If it is not going to work for you here, go to where it will work for you. We will not advise anyone to stay where it is difficult for them. If you want to seek greener pastures outside, please go. I’m sure that when we build a greater Nigeria, you will come back,” Obi stated.
Earlier at Peter University, Obi underscored the transformative power of education, urging students to dedicate themselves to academic success.
He described education as a cornerstone for national development and encouraged the students to view their education as an investment in both their personal futures and the future of Nigeria.
