Group calls for establishment of ministry for livestock in Kano

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Kano State Chapter, has called on the state government to establish a Ministry for Livestock Development.

The request was made in a statement signed by the group’s Chairman, Capt. Abdullahi Bakoji Adamu (Rtd.), which was shared with the media in Kano on Sunday.

In the statement, the group commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his dedication to the welfare of all residents, including pastoralists. Capt. Adamu expressed appreciation for the governor’s administration for its efforts in promoting agriculture and fostering peaceful coexistence among communities.

The Chairman emphasized that the creation of a Ministry for Livestock Development in Kano would significantly enhance animal husbandry practices, improve livestock breeds, and upgrade grazing reserves. He also highlighted the potential for better feed and animal health services, as well as the adoption of modern livestock techniques.

Capt. Adamu further stated that the establishment of the proposed ministry would not only boost revenue from livestock-related industries but also create jobs, contribute to food security, and provide increased opportunities for the youth. Additionally, he noted that it would help address ongoing farmer-pastoralist conflicts.

The statement asserted that this initiative would strengthen Kano’s position in agricultural development and improve the lives of pastoralists. The group also pledged its continued support for Governor Yusuf’s administration, praising his commitment to prioritizing the needs of all citizens.

The statement maintained that “This initiative will strengthen Kano’s position in agricultural development and improve the lives
of pastoralists under the progressive leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.”

He however hailed the governor for “prioritizing the needs of all citizens and pledge our continued support for his administration.”
