Former governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, emphasized the importance of restraint in maintaining peace in Rivers State. He commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for their restraint, stating that it is a crucial factor in ensuring peace and stability.
Dickson, speaking during a meeting with Governor Fubara in Port Harcourt, led a delegation of political and traditional leaders from Bayelsa State. He urged Governor Fubara to continue exercising restraint, highlighting the potential dangers of wielding power without it.
Acknowledging the efforts of various leaders in resolving political issues in Rivers State, Dickson praised President Bola Tinubu’s interventions and other leaders who have worked both publicly and privately to bring stability to the region.
Emphasizing the need for political maturity, Dickson said to Governor Fubara, “Power without restraint is one of the most dangerous things, but you have restraint; continue to show that. Even minor incidents in other states could have ignited widespread violence, but your calm leadership, supported by the citizenry and the restraint exhibited by both you and your predecessor, has kept Rivers State peaceful. We pray that it remains so forever.”
