The daughter of former Delta State Governor James Ibori, Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, has announced her departure from the Peoples Democratic Party and her decision to join the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Ibori-Suenu, a member of the House of Representatives representing the Ethiope East/Ethiope West Constituency, cited dissatisfaction with the leadership of the PDP as the primary reason for her defection.
In a resignation letter dated Thursday, December 5, and read out by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, Ibori-Suenu expressed her frustration with the party’s leadership, particularly the exclusion she faced from the Delta State chapter of the PDP.
The letter, titled “Notice of Resignation of Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu as Member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),” formally announced her resignation from the party.
In the letter, she stated that she was surrendering her PDP membership card, number 0777144, as part of her complete disengagement from the party.
Ibori-Suenu further explained that the exclusion of Delta State PDP by the national leadership and the ongoing internal crisis within the party made it clear that the PDP could no longer protect her interests.
“Please be informed that by this notice I formally resign as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect. I surrender my attached Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] Membership Card, with membership number 0777144 in furtherance of my complete dissociation and disengagement from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),” the letter stated.
