INEC begins Ondo, Edo gov polls observers accreditation

The Independent National Electoral Commission has directed accredited organisations to upload the personal details and photographs of their field observers on its portal in preparation for the upcoming Edo and Ondo State governorship elections.

According to a statement signed by Sam Olumekun, Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, a total of 134 organisations – comprising 124 domestic and 10 international groups – have been selected for accreditation after reviewing 153 applications.

The commission will conduct a one-day training for representatives of observer groups on July 17, 2024, at its Conference Room in Abuja, where access codes to the portal and letters of accreditation will be distributed.

This move aims to ensure a transparent and credible electoral process, and accredited organisations are urged to comply with the directive to facilitate a seamless exercise.

The statement posted on X on Monday reads in part, “The next step is for the accredited organisations to upload the personal details and photographs of their field observers to our dedicated portal established for that purpose.

“To this end, the Commission is organizing a one-day training for representatives of observer groups on Wednesday 17th July 2024 at the Commission’s Conference Room in Abuja at 10am.

“Access Code to the portal and letters of accreditation will be given to representatives of the accredited organisations at the training venue”.
