IPAC urges government to deliver on democratic promises

The Inter Party Advisory Council has called on governments at all levels to deliver the fruits of democracy to citizens in line with Section 14(2)(b) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).

The council emphasized that doing so would help alleviate the suffering of the populace.

In a statement on Sunday, IPAC congratulated Muslims across the country for successfully completing the month-long Ramadan fast, marking the end of Eid-el-Fitr celebrations. The council also urged them to embody the virtues of piety, love, tolerance, generosity, and unity in their efforts to build a better society.

“We urge governments at all levels to provide fruits of democracy to citizens to assuage their sufferings in accordance with Section 14(2)(b) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended,” Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, National Chairman of IPAC, said.

He further noted that the Constitution “provides that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.” Dantalle stressed that citizens “deserve a fair deal from their government,” adding that good governance is essential for fostering sustainable democracy and development.

“It is time for patriotism, all hands should be on deck in our collective resolve, commitment, and determination to build a greater nation future generations will be proud of,” Dantalle concluded.

In addition to the call for good governance, IPAC strongly condemned the brutal killing of 16 hunters in Uromi, Edo State. The hunters, who were allegedly traveling from Port Harcourt to Kano to celebrate Sallah with their families, were reportedly killed in the attack.

“It is unjust and wicked,” the council said, expressing deep concern over the incident. IPAC called on security agencies to identify and arrest the perpetrators of the crime. “Every life matters and should be protected as we assiduously work for a decent democratic nation,” the council added.
