A Southeast secessionist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra, has warned the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, to stop using the name of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu to promote his political interests.

IPOB in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, told Kalu to stop deceiving Nigerians about his purported agitation for Kanu’s release.

According to the group, Kalu was only using their leader’s name to achieve his selfish political interests.

The deputy speaker recently warned that the South-East can’t arm-twist the Federal Government into releasing Kanu through the sit-at-home exercise.

However, the South-East Secessionist group while reacting in the statement on Wednesday, condemned the action displayed by the lawmaker, while also warning him to desist from making popularity through the name of its leader.

The statement reads: “The attention of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our supreme leader Mazi Nnamdi KANU has been drawn to the continuous and frequent use of IPOB and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s ordeal to pursue his political interest by the Deputy Speaker House of Representative Hon. Benjamin Kalu, which has no result. He should stop deceiving the public with the persecution of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“We advise Hon. Benjamin Kalu, to refrain from using IPOB and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s political persecution for his selfish political interest. We have gone past the stage of political games and gimmicks.

“Hon. Benjamin Kalu has constantly been on the print and social media, claiming to work hard for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“IPOB, ESN, and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu have become a daily song for the APC stooges and political jobbers who do not have any genuine interest in the IPOB struggle nor the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from the Federal government’s persecution and illegal detention. Hon. Kalu has found something of relevance to keep making headlines on the pages of Nigerian newspapers.

“We wish to let him know that we are aware of his antics and gimmicks towards Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB.

“It is pathetic that some self-serving Igbo politicians are bent on destroying IPOB and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, while other politicians from other zones are empowering their political agitation groups even terrorist groups used to overrun and conquer territories for their purposes.

“If not for IPOB, ESN, and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, many Southeastern villages would have been occupied by terrorists.”
