Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has hailed the Supreme Court Judgement which affirmed President Bola Tinubu’s victory, telling the President that the time to unite the country has come.
Adeleke in a congratulatory message issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, in Osogbo, said “Our judicial system has once again proven itself in tackling disputes that arise from our elections.”
Acknowledging the finality of the apex court ruling on disputes on the 2023 presidential election, the governor said the resolution of the questions surrounding the election would bring about focus in confronting the many challenges facing Nigeria.
He, however, commended the main opposition candidates in the election, for deepening Nigeria’s electoral jurisprudence by testing their complaints at the court of law.
“On behalf of the good people of Osun State, I congratulate President Tinubu on his judicial victory at the apex court.
“I hope that your administration will bring progress, unity, and prosperity to our nation, and I want to restate my commitment to partner with you in offering good governance for our people,” Adeleke said.
Premium Politics had earlier reported that the apex court on Thursday dismissed the appeals of the Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party, and their presidential candidates in the February 25 election, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, challenging the judgement of the tribunal which affirmed the victory of Tinubu in the election.
Atiku and Obi had challenged the victory of Tinubu and sought to overturn the declaration of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
In its judgement, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal for lacking merit, while also holding that new evidence by parties could not be introduced at the stage of appeal.
