Meanwhile, as the party delegates gather in numbers to elect its presidential flagbearer for the 2023 general elections at the Eagle Square in Abuja, Premium Politics gathered that three aspirants stepped down for Osinbajo.

The Director-General of the Yemi Osinbajo Campaign Organisation, Senator Kabiru Gaya,  who made this known on Tuesday added that the list of Presidential aspirants in the All Progressives Congress has been trimmed to just two – Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and former Governor Bola Tinubu of Lagos State.

The publication had earlier quoted Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State as saying that a shortlist of five aspirants including, Tinubu, Osinbajo, Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, his Ebonyi State counterpart, Dave Umahi; and the immediate past Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, had been sent to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), for consideration.

However, Gaya, who represents Kano-South senatorial district, told Channels Television that the list has now been trimmed to two, claiming that three Presidential aspirants, including former Senate President Ken Nnamani,  had stepped down for the Vice-President.

Gaya stated, “We have Vice-President Osinbajo and Bola Tinubu. I am aware that some aspirants have stepped down for Osinbajo. Nnamani and two others have stepped down for Osinbajo.”

As of the time of filing this report, Premium Politics can’t independently verify this claim.

However, Nnamani who stepped down on Monday cited the political marginalisation of the South-East as his reason for stepping down.
