Jigawa commissioner faces court today over alleged infidelity

The Jigawa State Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwal Sankara, is scheduled to appear in a Kano court today over allegations of infidelity.

The Director-General of the Kano Hisbah Commission, Abba Sufi, confirmed Sankara’s arrest to the media on Sunday.

Sankara was allegedly caught in an uncompleted building with a married woman, leading to public uproar.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Sankara strongly denied the allegations, saying, “This is nothing but a deliberate act of mischief aimed at tarnishing my political career.”

In response to the incident, Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi has established a five-member committee to investigate the claims.

The committee, led by the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim, includes the Commissioners for Information, Sagir Musa, and Basic Education, Lawal Danzomo, along with the Special Adviser on Security Matters, Usman Muhammed. The panel has been given two weeks to submit its report.

The Secretary to the State Government, Ibrahim, expressed concern about the seriousness of the accusations and the impact on the state’s image.

“The gravity of the situation is of great concern to the government, especially considering the widespread media coverage that has resulted in significant embarrassment,” Ibrahim said in a statement on Sunday.

To ensure transparency during the investigation, the state government has suspended Sankara. The suspension, announced by Ibrahim on Saturday, is intended to allow for an impartial inquiry.

“This precautionary step is necessary to facilitate a fair and unbiased inquiry. We are committed to maintaining the integrity of the administration and ensuring the public’s trust in the government,” he added.

The committee is expected to present its findings within the next two weeks.
