A former commissioner in Ondo State, Julius Ijabiyi, has taken Senator Jimoh Ibrahim to the Federal High Court in Abuja, alleging intimidation and threats to his life.
Ijabiyi, who claims to have served as campaign coordinator for Ibrahim’s governorship bid, is seeking N520m in damages.
In the suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/857/2024, Ijabiyi alleged that Ibrahim has been using security operatives to threaten him over a “mere civil issue bothering on religious and political relationship.”
He stated: “Ibrahim had lately resorted to threatening me with ‘arrest, detention over issues bothering on political party activities/party politics resulting into an infringement of my fundamental human rights.'”
Ijabiyi recalled being appointed to coordinate Ibrahim’s campaign machinery, ‘Jimoh Ibrahim Aseyori Campaign Group’, but claimed Ibrahim has since turned against him. He is seeking N500m in damages, N20m in court costs, and an injunction restraining Ibrahim and his agents from further threats or intimidation.
Ibrahim’s legal team has opposed the suit, challenging the court’s jurisdiction to hear the case. The matter was adjourned until October 28 for a report on service.
