Jonathan intervenes in Wike, Fubara feud, calls for unity

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has called for a resolution to the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, urging Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to collaborate for the state’s benefit.

Jonathan made this appeal on Monday during the unveiling ceremony of the Trans-Kalabari Road in Rivers State.

He emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation between the state’s leadership to ensure continued development and stability in the region.

Rivers state has been experiencing political tension, particularly between Fubara, and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. This feud has roots in previous conflicts within the state’s political arena, notably the longstanding rivalry between Wike and another former leader, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

Jonathan, who has previously been involved in the state’s politics, stepped in to mediate the situation, although details of this intervention have not been disclosed. His intervention is seen as an attempt to bridge the divide and foster a collaborative environment for the betterment of Rivers State.

The Trans-Kalabari Road, where Jonathan made his appeal, is a significant infrastructure project in Rivers State. The road is expected to enhance connectivity and development across the Kalabari local government areas of Akuku-Toru, Asari-Toru, and Degema.

The Rivers State government has allocated a substantial budget of N222.1 billion for this project, which is anticipated to be completed in 32 months.
