The ruling All Progressive Congress National Working Committee have been reportedly left divided over the announcement of Senate President Lawan Ahmad as the party’s consensus presidential candidate.
According to The Punch, the members of the NWC met on Tuesday following the directive of the President Major General Muhammadu Buhari(rtd) to pick a consensus candidate after the consultation.
Lawan was reportedly announced as the president’s choice by the party’s National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
Some members of the NWC kicked against the choice, insisting that a southern presidential candidate should emerge.
A member of the NWC told the publication that Lawan was announced as the consensus candidate.
The unnamed source added that other members kicked against it, causing division among the committee.
