Kaduna Assembly suggests probe of El-Rufai’s administration

The Kaduna State House of Assembly has received a report from its ad hoc committee investigating the finances, loans, and contracts of the previous administration under Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

The report, presented by Committee Chairman Henry Zacharia, reveals that loans totaling N423 billion were misused or obtained without due process, and funds were diverted and laundered, leaving the state with significant liabilities.

The committee’s investigation found that the previous administration engaged in a pattern of financial recklessness and abuse of office, with many loans secured without proper authorization or used for unauthorized purposes, according to Channels TV.

The report also alleges that several key officials, including the former governor and his finance commissioner, were involved in the mismanagement of state funds.

The committee recommends that El-Rufai and other indicted officials be investigated and prosecuted for abuse of office, contract fraud, and money laundering.

The report also calls for the suspension of the Commissioner of Finance, Shizer Badda, and the chairman of the state universal basic education board, as well as a thorough investigation of key appointees by law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies.

The report is the result of a comprehensive examination of loans, grants, and project implementation from 2015 to 2023, and is expected to lead to further action by the state assembly and law enforcement agencies.

The Kaduna State House of Assembly is expected to take further action on the report, including possible impeachment proceedings against the former governor and other officials implicated in the report.
