The crack in the ruling All Progressives Congress, seems to be getting deeper, as one of the aspirants bidding for the senate presidency, Orji Uzor Kalu warned the party, over the decision to micro-zone major leadership roles in the upper and lower chambers.
The Senator, who represents Abia North Senatorial District, at the 9th assembly, while speaking with the leadership of the party during a meeting at the party’s National Secretariat on Thursday, urged the party to think about the micro-zoning arrangement, adopted by its leadership.
Explaining that he does not have any issue with zoning the positions to certain geopolitical zones in the country, Kalu, who attended the meeting alongside Senator Abdulaziz Yari and, Senator Sani Musa, said that micro-zoning and choosing anointed candidates, may not have a good end for the party.
The former Abia governor, who explained that he had always submitted to the party supremacy, said this decision may mare the party’s chance, while voting, to choose the leadership because, many aggrieved aspirants and members, will vote against the wish of the party.
It would be recalled that APC National Working Committee, had chosen Godswill Akpabio as the President of the Senate, while Tajudeen Abass was also announced as the party’s choice, for the position of the speaker of the House of Representatives.
However, more consultations are still ongoing with major stakeholders in the party, to perfect the plan of the zoning system, in choosing the leadership of both houses.
