Kano gov orders political appointees to declare assets

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has directed all political appointees to declare their assets with the Code of Conduct Bureau to avoid potential legal consequences.

The governor issued the directive during an Iftar (Ramadan breaking of fast) event with Heads of Government Agencies and Special Advisers at the Kano State Government House.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, Governor Yusuf disclosed, “The management of Code of Conduct Bureau Kano office has informed me that 60 to 70 percent of the state appointees have not registered with them.

“They appealed to me to direct you to do so to avoid the consequences of non-declaration of assets, which is enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution,” he stated.

He urged the appointees to promptly obtain, complete, and submit the necessary forms to ensure compliance with legal requirements.

During the event, Governor Yusuf also expressed dissatisfaction with some Special Advisers who, despite their primary responsibility of providing counsel, had failed to offer any advice, either verbally or in writing.

“It is far better for an Adviser to send me dozens of memos than to remain silent for over a year without offering any advice on governance matters,” he noted.

He charged them to change their approach by actively monitoring government activities related to their offices and submitting reports—whether positive or negative.

Commending the Heads of Government Agencies for their support and cooperation, Governor Yusuf allocated 13 Hajj seats to them as a reward for their dedication and service.

Speaking on behalf of the agency heads, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Contributory Health Care Management Agency, Dr. Rahila Mukhtar, expressed gratitude for the governor’s support and urged him to correct them whenever necessary to align with the administration’s vision.

Earlier, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, reminded the appointees of the oath they took before the governor—and by extension, before God Almighty—to execute their duties with justice.

He urged them to remain committed to Governor Yusuf’s mission and vision, which prioritize transformation and improving the standard of living for the citizens.
