Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has dissolved the caretaker chairmen of all 44 Local Government Areas, effective immediately.
This decision comes just a week after the state House of Assembly approved a two-month extension to their tenure, which was initially set to expire on September 8.
The extension was aimed at ensuring continuity in local governance, but Governor Yusuf has now directed the caretaker chairmen to hand over leadership to their respective Directors of Personnel Management.
According to Sanusi Bature, the Governor’s spokesperson, Governor Yusuf stated, “This dissolution applies to all chairmen, vice chairmen, secretaries, and councillors.”
The Governor also expressed gratitude to the caretaker chairmen for their contribution to the development of their areas and hinted at potential future collaboration.
It’s worth noting that local government elections are scheduled to take place on October 26. This move may be a step towards preparing for those elections and ensuring a smooth transition.
The Kano State House of Assembly had previously cleared 44 nominees for confirmation as interim management committees for the 44 local government areas.
