Kwara gov swears in two new commissioners, reshuffles cabinet

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Monday, inaugurated two new commissioners, urging them to work collaboratively to advance his administration’s development agenda.

According to The PUNCH, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe and Dr. Maryam Nnafatima-Imam were sworn in as Commissioners for Education and Human Capital Development, and Social Development, respectively.

The governor tasked them with contributing meaningfully to governance and ensuring the effective implementation of government policies.

The appointments were part of a broader cabinet reshuffle, as announced by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye. Under the new arrangement, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu, who previously led the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, now heads the Ministry of Tertiary Education. Similarly, Dr. Mary Arinde was moved from the Ministry of Tertiary Education to the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development.

Other key changes included Lafia Kora-Sabi being appointed as the head of the newly created Ministry of Transportation, while Mrs. Olohuntoyosi Thomas, formerly in charge of Agriculture and Rural Development, now oversees the newly established Ministry of Livestock Development. Dr. Afeez Abolore transitioned from the Solid Minerals Ministry to take over the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, with Abosede Buraimoh replacing him at Solid Minerals after previously heading the Ministry of Social Development.

Governor AbdulRazaq described the appointments as well-earned promotions from the appointees’ previous roles as Senior Special Assistants, stressing the importance of teamwork and dedication to public service.

“Today marks not just the beginning of a new chapter for the commissioners but also a renewed commitment to serving the people of Kwara State with dedication, integrity, and vision,” the governor said.

He highlighted the administration’s achievements in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and social welfare, urging the new appointees to be innovative and responsive to the needs of the people.

“Our government has made measurable progress across different sectors. We have raised the bar in public education, primary healthcare, rural and urban development, infrastructure, and social protection initiatives,” he noted.

“As you step into your new roles, I urge you to embrace creativity, engage with the people, think outside the box, and apply prudence in every decision,” he added.
