The Kwara State Social Democratic Party’s candidate for governor, Hakeem Lawal, has attributed the poor voter turnout in the elections for the House of Assembly and governor to security and transportation concerns.

After perfoming his civic duty, Lawal, who voted at precisely 9:50 a.m. at unit 003, Magaji Aare Ward 1, Ilorin east LG, Ilorin, made this statement to reporters.

He claimed that “As you can see, there is voter apathy. I’m not sure why this is the case; perhaps there were transportation problems that caused a delay. The only thing I saw on the way here is that several paths were closed by security organizations, which limits how people may move.

“They are essentially being denied the right to vote since it restricts their ability to go and vote.

“We all have voter ID cards, and you can tell where I plan to vote just by looking at mine.

“The BVAS is a different issue, and until we see how today goes, we might not be able to determine if it was successful or not.”

He claimed that while voting was still going on, it was too early to predict how the governorship elections would be run.
