At least 60 members of the Federal House of Representatives have sort for a change of the system of government in the country.
The lawmakers are seeking amendments to the 1999 Constitution to transition from the presidential to parliamentary system of government.
The lawmakers were led by the member representing Lagos State under the All Progressives Congress, Wale Raji, according to Politics Nigeria.
The lawmakers also identified the need for reducing the cost of government.
Robust policy debates among others were some of the reasons for demanding a return to the parliamentary system.
Recall that Nigeria adopted a federal presidential constitution in 1979.
The presidency became an executive post, with powers similar to those of its American counterpart.
The legislature was a bicameral National Assembly, comprising a Senate and House of Representatives.
