Residents of Bomadi Local Government Area in Delta State over the weekend showed remarkable dedication to the democratic process by turning out in large numbers for the Local Government Elections, despite facing early morning rains.
The elections were held to select leaders for the various wards in the council area, and voters were seen braving the inclement weather to cast their ballots at key locations such as Kpakiama Ward 2, Bomadi Ward 1, and other wards throughout the area. This strong voter turnout underscores the community’s commitment to participating in the local governance process.
After casting his vote at Akugbene Ward 9, the Obaseki of Akugbene-Mein Kingdom and former chairman of the Delta State Muslims Pilgrimage Welfare Board, High Chief Yusuf Eregbene, praised the electoral process. He described it as the most peaceful and transparent local government election he had ever witnessed in the region. He said, “I thank Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori for providing a peaceful atmosphere for the conduct of the local government election across the state, and I’m confident of better democratic dividends under the Oborevwori administration.”
The state secretary of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. Trophy Kirifagha, also expressed his appreciation for the voter turnout. After voting at Kalafiugbene Ward 5, Kirifagha acknowledged the resilience of the Bomadi residents who braved the rain to participate in the elections. He assured the community that the PDP is committed to delivering on their promises of development. “I thank all Bomadians for leaving their comfort zones to vote despite the rain. I assure them that the PDP will earnestly work to bring the needed development to the council area. The M.O.R.E. Agenda is working for Deltans, as everyone can see, and Bomadi local government area will not be an exception,” he said.
The M.O.R.E. Agenda, an initiative of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration, stands for Motivation, Openness, Responsiveness, and Empowerment, and aims to drive development and improve the quality of governance in Delta State.
