Ahead of the upcoming council and councillorship elections, youths from Ezza North local government area of Ebonyi State have pledged to retire old and self-serving politicians, paving the way for younger generations.
The Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission has scheduled July 20, 2024, for the local government elections in the state.
Expressing their dissatisfaction with the governance in Ezza North, the youths vowed not to elect old and self-serving politicians to lead the local government area.
During their visit to the state Commissioner for Environment, Victor Chukwu, to urge him to contest in the local government election, the youths, led by their National President, Emeka Nwokporo, and Publicity Secretary, Polycarp Obinna Alegu, highlighted the challenges faced by Ezza North.
They lamented the area’s underdevelopment, attributing it to poor leadership. They emphasized the need for new leadership to bring about meaningful development in the local government area.
“The good works of the state governor, His Excellency, Rt Hon Bldr Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, which are anchored on the ‘people’s charter of needs,’ should be replicated at the grassroots level, particularly in Ezza North, to ensure even development in the state.
“We have experienced leadership failure in the council led by old politicians, and we cannot afford to have another old person as our council boss. We need a youth with vision to lead the council for the good of the people.
