The Joint Task Force responsible for enforcing the restriction of movement during the local government election in Katsina State has impounded 53 tricycles and motorcycles in Katsina town.
The Katsina State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Aliyu Ma’aji, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday in Katsina.
Ma’aji stated that the measure was in line with the directive given to ensure a hitch-free exercise across the 34 local government areas of the state.
“The enforcement is part of efforts to maintain order and security during the election,” he explained.
It would be recalled that the police command in Katsina had earlier announced restrictions on individuals and vehicular movements during the Saturday polls from 6 am to 4 pm. The command’s spokesman, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, said the measure was aimed at ensuring the maintenance of law and order, as well as the security of the electorate during the exercise.
“The restriction is necessary to safeguard the electoral process and prevent any disruptions,” Aliyu added.
The impoundment of the 53 tricycles and motorcycles underscores the authorities’ commitment to enforcing the movement restrictions and ensuring a peaceful and orderly election.
