Ahead of the October 19 Local Government elections, the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission has released the preliminary list of candidates cleared by their political parties to participate in the polls.
KOSIEC unveiled the list of candidates as part of its responsibilities in advancing the electoral process.
Among the prospective candidates from various political parties, the Social Democratic Party list was also included.
Shortly after confirming the authenticity of the list released by KOSIEC, the Kogi State Chairman of SDP, Hon. Moses Peter Oricha, praised the electoral body for its efforts. He urged them to continue working for the betterment of the state and its electoral system.
Reaffirming his commitment to the principles of SDP, Hon. Oricha encouraged all candidates on the list to remain persistent and persevere until the race is won. He further advised them to invest all their resources into the campaign to achieve victory for the party and represent the people effectively.
Hon. Oricha assured the candidates that the list he provided is the authentic one recognized by KOSIEC, as evidenced by a stamped document handed directly to him by the commission.
However, the Kogi SDP Chairman cautioned Kogites to distance themselves from the Sam Abenemi-led group, stating that they are not recognized by the state electoral body.
“I am using this medium to call on all aspirants who have been allegedly defrauded by the Sam Abenemi-led group to approach the relevant authorities to demand their refunds and reclaim their money,” he said.
It should be noted that the Kogi State SDP Chairman had previously raised concerns about certain individuals he considered to be outsiders causing confusion within the party. According to him, these individuals were using the party’s name to pursue their own interests and deceive the public by promising KOSIEC forms for the upcoming council elections.
The Kogi State Local Government election is scheduled to take place on October 19, 2024, with KOSIEC promising a free, fair, and credible process.
