The National leadership of the New Nigeria People’s Party has issued a stern warning to the Ogun State Independent National Electoral Commission not to alter the party’s original logo as the state prepares for the forthcoming local government elections.
In a letter to OGSIEC, NNPP National Secretary, Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday, emphasized that the party’s logo, featuring a “basket of fruits,” has remained unchanged for the past 22 years and will not be modified for any reason.
Oginni stated, “The purported attempt by a group, known as ‘Kwankwasia’ with the connivance of some INEC officials to change the original logo of the party was a ruse.”
He added, “The leadership of the party at its convention held in Abuja on Sunday the 21st of July, 2024, unanimously rejected the purported change of the logo of the party.”
Oginni further revealed that the party has taken legal action, stating, “The leadership of the party has approached the Federal High Court Abuja, to challenge the illegal Kwankwasia Group Convention that brought in the illegal change of logo, asking the Court to declare all the actions of the Kwankwasia’s group a nullity.”
Concluding the letter, Oginni urged OGSIEC to respect the rule of law and democracy, saying, “Consequently, we urge your commission in respect of the rule of law and zest of our democracy not to tamper with the ‘original logo’ of the NEW NIGERIA PEOPLE’S PARTY that has been in existence and usage for the past 22 years.”
