Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, Hashim Abioye, has alleged that officers of the Nigeria Police Force arrested commission staff deployed for election duty across the state.
In a statement posted on the commission’s official X page on Saturday, Abioye commended voters for turning out to exercise their rights despite the challenges faced during the electoral process.
He also apologised to the media for the commission’s failure to provide accreditation materials, attributing the setback to the police sealing off the OSSIEC headquarters, where the materials were kept.
Abioye further explained that delays experienced in some polling units resulted from the arrest of officials responsible for distributing election materials. However, he assured that new materials had been dispatched to the affected areas, allowing voting to proceed.
“Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested staff of the commission who are on election duty across the state,” Abioye stated.
