The Labour Party under the leadership of Julius Abure, has reported its former National Treasurer, Ms. Oluchi Oparah, to security agencies for alleged impersonation.
In a statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, in Abuja, Ms. Oparah is accused of falsely posing as the LP’s National Woman Leader to extort money from party members.
“It has come to the attention of the Labour Party leadership that Ms. Oluchi Oparah, previously the party’s National Treasurer, has been fraudulently posing as the National Woman Leader,” Ifoh stated.
He clarified that Ms. Oparah was suspended indefinitely from the LP in November 2023 due to anti-party activities, a suspension that remains in effect. Ifoh also stressed that Oparah has never held the position of National Woman Leader nor contested for it.
The LP confirmed that Mrs. Dudu Manuga is the party’s official National Woman Leader, holding the constitutional mandate to represent and oversee LP’s female members both in Nigeria and abroad.
Ifoh noted that Ms. Oparah’s misrepresentation has caused significant embarrassment to the party, prompting the LP to issue this public disclaimer. He further explained that Oparah has attended various events claiming to represent the LP to gain financial benefits fraudulently.
The LP has warned organizations, including the Inter-Party Advisory Council, The Kukah Foundation, NGOs, political associations, the National Assembly, and security agencies, to be wary of Ms. Oparah’s activities. The statement urged any group or entity approached by Ms. Oparah to report her to the police immediately.
