LP’s Thaddeus Attah under fire after posting photo in Tinubu cap

The Labour Party representative for Eti-Osa Federal Constituency in Lagos, Thaddeus Attah, has caused a stir after posting pictures of himself wearing a cap embroidered with a symbol linked to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress.

The post, shared on his X page, has raised eyebrows and sparked speculation about his political allegiance.

Recall that Attah won the February 2023 election with 24,075 votes, defeating Bankole Wellington of the Peoples Democratic Party, popularly known as Banky W, who garnered 18,666 votes while Babajide Obanikoro of the APC finished third with 16,901 votes.

Following his victory, Wellington and Obanikoro challenged the results at the tribunal. In September 2023, the tribunal ordered a supplementary election in 32 polling units, but the appeal court in Lagos overturned the decision in November 2023, affirming Attah as the legitimate winner.

Attah’s recent post featuring the cap with Tinubu’s symbol has fueled curiosity among users on X, with many questioning his political stance and whether he has shifted allegiances.

One user, Prince Saviour, expressed disappointment, commenting that it was painful to see how much sacrifice, time, and effort was invested by the people to elect Attah, only to see him wear the cap of the APC leader.

Other users shared similar sentiments, with one remarking that those who supported Attah over Banky W, due to the latter’s PDP affiliation, now felt betrayed. Another user, Nelson Josiah, pointed out that Attah owed his position to the LP and warned that political fortunes could change quickly.

Donald Dumebi, a social media commentator, also weighed in, calling Attah an opportunist who would likely play both sides of the political spectrum to maintain his seat, but still face challenges in securing an APC ticket. Dumebi emphasized that his votes would now be based on individual candidates, rather than party affiliations.

Prince Saviour posted the image with the caption: “Opposition Otilo ooh, our Lagos Labour Party House of Representatives, Representing Eti OSA Federal Constituency Putting on Tinubu cap. Ire ooh.

“What pains most is the people sacrifices, time, resources, sweat and tears and blood put together to elect these guys voluntarily.”

Another user wrote: “Obidients/Eluuuu-P in Lagos rejected a sound guy like Banky-W because he is PDP, and opted for this Thaddeus Attah, to Represent Eti OSA Federal Constituency.

“Na Oga wear Tinubu cap so. Opposition tilo ni yen. This is purely labouring in vain.”

Nelson Josiah @NelsonJosiah8 wrote, “Without LP he wouldn’t have been there but he forgot that what gose up must sure come down. It is not how far but how well.”

Donald Dumebi: A New Nigeria is Possible @DumebiDonald wrote, “What do you expect? He just an opportunist like you said. He would play the normal politics to retain his seat, but will still not get the APC ticket & would return to the sympathetic appeal for vote from Obidients. For me my vote from now is candidate base not party.”
