Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has expressed his appreciation to all youths and parents in the state for ensuring peaceful demonstrations across the state against hunger and hardship in the country.
In a statement issued by the state Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, on Saturday, Makinde said: “I want to express my appreciation to all the youths and parents in Oyo State for ensuring that the demonstrations across the state have been peaceful. We were among the first set of leaders across Nigeria to publicly embrace the constitutionality of the #EndHungerProtest, with an admonition that the protest must be peaceful to achieve the desired result.”
Makinde further appealed to Nigerians, saying: “I appeal to Nigerians to be law-abiding and to ensure that their agitation is without rancour and incitement throughout this period. I praise the people, and most especially the youths, for keeping their end of the bargain as we expect the Federal Government to make life better for all and sundry.”
The governor also called on Nigerians in states where violence had been recorded during the protest, saying: “I call on Nigerians in states where various degrees of violence have been recorded during the protest to allow peace to reign as we continue our search for good governance.”
