Minimum wage: Half ‘agbado’ better than none, Shehu Sani reacts to strike suspension

Former Senator Shehu Sani has expressed his support for the suspension of the nationwide strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress stating that partial resolution is better than none at all.

In a statement on social media, Senator Sani welcomed the decision, stating that it will create an opportunity for further negotiations between the government and labour leaders.

He expressed his optimism with a local proverb, “Half agbado is better than none,” signifying that a partial resolution is better than none at all.

Senator Sani’s comments come after the labour unions suspended their strike action following a meeting with government representatives, agreeing to continue negotiations on the disputed issues.

“The suspension of the strike to make room for continued negotiations is ok. Half agbado is better than none,” the former lawmaker wrote on X.

Recall that the Labour Union said the suspension was to give room for uninterrupted meetings with the tripartite committee on the new national minimum wage.
