Delta State Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has issued a stern warning to public officials, stating that any conduct found to contradict his administration’s vision and mandate will result in sanctions.
Governor Oborevwori made this declaration during the swearing-in ceremony of Chairmen and members of various Commissions and Boards held in Asaba. The event marked another step in assembling what the governor described as a “winning team” under the administration’s MORE agenda, aimed at advancing the state’s development goals.
Addressing the newly appointed officials, the governor emphasised the need for servant-leadership and urged them to prioritise the welfare and interests of the people.
“Today, we continue the process of assembling a winning team for the advancement of our dear state under the MORE agenda,” Governor Oborevwori stated. “The men and women that have just been sworn in are persons of proven track record of performance who will bring their wealth of knowledge, experience, expertise, and wisdom to bear on the running of the government.”
He outlined his expectations for the appointees, highlighting the importance of selflessness and integrity in leadership.
“It is a call to servant-leadership. A servant-leader focuses on identifying and meeting the needs of others, protecting their rights, and being a good example to them. These are the qualities expected of you,” he said.
“When a leader transparently and faithfully serves the needs of others or the organisation, he will not only get the best out of people, he will also earn their respect and admiration. The interest and wellbeing of the people is paramount.”
Governor Oborevwori also stressed that effective service transcends personal recognition or credit. “When service is the focus of leadership, it does not matter who gets the credit or whether you are recognised or not. You are happy as long as the common good is served and the people are uplifted.”
He reinforced his administration’s commitment to accountability, warning officials against dereliction of duty or behaviour that undermines the government’s goals.
“Let me make it clear that this administration will not fail to sanction any public official who is found wanting in the discharge of his duties or whose conduct is found to be at variance with our vision and mandate,” he declared.
The admonition applied to all appointees, including members of the Delta State Waste Management Board, with Mr. Matthew Mofe Edema inaugurated as Chairman and Ethe Enifome Juliet as a member.
Governor Oborevwori’s remarks underscored his administration’s resolve to ensure that public service remains a platform for advancing the interests of the people of Delta State.
