Mixed reactions trail Sowore's Queen Elizabeth comment

Sowore

Nigerians have taken to social media to react to the comment made by the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, regarding the late Queen Elizabeth II on Friday.

Sowore on Thursday urged Nigerians not to honour the late Queen because she did not die for them.

The UK’s longest-serving monarch, died at Balmoral aged 96, after reigning for 70 years.

She died peacefully on Thursday afternoon at her Scottish estate, where she had spent much of the summer.

Her son, King Charles III said the death of his beloved mother was a “moment of great sadness” for him and his family and that her loss would be “deeply felt” around the world.

Reacting, Sowore in a post on Facebook said, “Don’t mourn the Queen. She didn’t die for you! The death of the Queen should herald the end of the ‘Commonwealth’ #WeCantContinueLikeThis.”

Below are some of such comments made by Nigerians:

One Kunle Oloko commented, “I can’t even imagine you being a councillor in any local government in Nigeria.”

Akilu Abdul Kinging commented, “We will mourn her, she is not the reason why you got 50thousand votes in the presidential election. Consult widely. “May your soul rest in peace Her Majesty!”

Umar Adisa Oladele commented, “There nothing making sense in this, we lost a great person, it’s not like we are crying it’s all a simple prayer rip queen.”

Ashiwaju Oluwamuyiwa Omo Ajisafe commented, “Sowore? Sometimes you will get it right while sometime you will just like to congratulate your shadow. Your view concerning Queen is different from others’ realistic way of reasons word.

“People mourn Queen because of her humanistic perspective. Not her position or her personality.

“We are all humans. So, it is necessary to mourn her brother. God bless you and more wisdom and knowledge to upgrade your better opinion into this world of truth for truth.”

Jumoke Akindele commented, “So the Commonwealth is Nigeria’s problem? Why didn’t you identify it before? You just latch on to every topic and make it yours. So the Queen, dead or alive, is Nigeria’s immediate problem? My brother, proffer solutions that we can relate to and how you plan to solve the problems of insecurity, hunger and poverty bedevilling this Nation of paradoxes instead of carrying a gong on every issue however remote it is to your cause. This is beyond irritating.”

Citizen Nagaziman, commented, “Is it your Mourning? Oga, reduce your Intake.”

However, Nurudeen Olaosebikan Musa commented, “Why won’t they mourn the queen, when they’re more British than Being Nigerian. Alaafia of Oyo passed on, the mumus couldn’t write simple RIP on their wall for him, now their grandma don kpayin. 😁”

Seyi Segun commented, “It is rather unfortunate. We don’t only celebrate those who plundered us, we also mourn them at their demise. Many are not even concerned about the killings of their kinsmen, but are quick to mourn the queen, what a shame….”

Johnero Abass added, “Queen will nvr rest in peace. She contributed to the perpetual hardship we are facing today. Colonisation is a sad history and we will nvr forget in a hurry.😢”

Godfit Henny said, “God bless u sir for this oooo thou am not mocking the dead but how come her death take concern Nigerians way dey mourn her, some people can’t post their parents to appreciate them when they are alive now Queen Died them no allow us rest”

Nwokporo Augustine also said, “Not all trends are worth joining, and not all souls are worth celebrating. What good has Queen Eliza’ 😏 done to Nigeria from 1960 till date that many Nigerians are weeping and mourning her death?☹️

“Oh, they were influenced to remove history from your curriculum so you will be celebrating your oppressors who are hell-bent on keeping you enslaved forever!

“You can type ”RIP” for the sake of humanity, but save those emotional emojis and prayers for the many souls being lost (to hunger, banditry, terrorism, etc) on daily basis in Nigeria; they need it more than a queen that has lived her life to the fullest.”
