Murray-Bruce defends Akpabio after Atiku’s corruption, sexual harassment allegations

Former Nigerian lawmaker, Ben Murray-Bruce, has praised Senate President Godswill Akpabio, describing him as a man of “unimpeachable good character.”

Murray-Bruce, who has known Akpabio for many years, emphasized that both the South-South region and Nigeria as a whole are fortunate to have him leading the National Assembly at this critical time in the nation’s development.

In a post shared on X, the former lawmaker stated that Akpabio has been thoroughly investigated by various agencies and has consistently been found to be clean. “I know Senator Godswill Akpabio personally and intimately. He is a man of unimpeachable good character, and both the South-South and Nigeria are fortunate to have him at the helm of affairs at the National Assembly at this delicate stage in our national growth,” Murray-Bruce wrote.

Murray-Bruce’s statement comes in response to recent allegations made by former President Atiku Abubakar, who accused Akpabio of corruption and misconduct, including a tendency to abuse women. In his post, Murray-Bruce defended Akpabio, stressing that Nigeria needs leaders like him to safeguard the integrity of the nation’s legislature.

“I will not stand idly by while some persons try, both home and abroad, to destroy an institution I was once proudly a part of. I am a Nigerian, who is proud of Nigeria and will give my all to protect and project my country to the world,” he added.

Murray-Bruce concluded his post by expressing his support for Akpabio, stating, “I give him my right hand of fellowship and stand firmly with him. Innuendo, hearsay, and dog whistles will always come. But they can never be so powerful that they will take preeminence over facts.”
