The National Association of Nigerian Students has called on Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to fulfill his promises of providing palliatives and buses for student union bodies in the state.
Leaders of the students’ Joint Campus Council, Ondo axis, Comrade Oluwarotimi Tobiloba Joshua and Comrade Oluwanishola Ajibola, addressed newsmen, expressing concerns over unfulfilled promises.
They noted, “The 12 buses promised for student mobility across the state have not been delivered.”
The students appreciated the recent approval and disbursement of bursaries and scholarships for indigenous students but appealed to the state government to address pressing challenges facing institutions.
Oluwarotimi highlighted the impact of the fuel price hike on students, “The increase in fuel price has led to increased transportation costs, food prices, and electricity challenges.”
He urged the federal government to address the rising dollar exchange rate.
Specific concerns raised include: Unfulfilled promises of 12 buses for student mobility; Delayed distribution of palliatives; Recent tuition fee hikes across state institutions.
The students’ leaders urged Governor Aiyedatiwa to reconsider the fee hike and provide financial relief to students.
Representatives from various institutions attended the press conference, including Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Adekunle Ajasin University, Federal University Of Technology, and others.
