#NigeriaDecides2023: Senate President Lawan reelected in Yobe North

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress’, for Yobe North, who is also the Nigerian Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, has been reelected back to the upper Chamber.

 

Ahmed Lawan, who won in a keenly contested election between himself and he candidate of the people Democratic Party, in the Saturday election in the Senatorial destrict was just confirmed by the court, as a candidate to represent APC, in the election resently.

 

Lawan, who contested APC’s Presidential Primary election, lost to the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the convention of the party, in Abuja.

 

After loosing the primary election to Tinubu, he went back to purchase an interest form for the Senatorial election of the Yobe North Senatorial destrict, he’s currently representing, at the national assembly.

 

However, this action resulted into a legal battle, between him and other candidate, Bashir Machina who has already bought an interest form and primary election, in the name of the party, from Yobe North.

 

Meanwhile, after the loosing against Machina at the lower court, APC and Lawan, took the case to the supreme court and received a better judgement against Machina, in a three – splited against two judgement of a five-man pannel led by Centus Nweze.

 

Lawan, who has been in both the lower and the upper Chamber of the Nigerian National Assembly for about 22 years, won the national assembly election by polling a score of 91, 318 votes, against his major opponent from the Peoples Democratic Party, Ilu Alhaji-Bello, Polled 22, 849 votes.

 

However, this victory has offered the federal lawmaker, another opportunity to represent the Senatorial destrict, which comprises, Machina, Bade, Yusufari, Jakusko, Nguru, and Karasuwa local government areas of Yobe State.
