The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced the extension of voting time infinito in Enugu State, in order to accommodate the late commencement of voting in many parts of the state.
The election started late generally in the state due to some logistic problems, occasioned by the delay of schedule by the hired transportation system.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, election started late, between 12 noon and 3:00 p.m, in most areas of the state, after INEC staff made frantic efforts to arrange for a special means of getting their materials and officials to the polling units.
The INEC spokesperson, Rex Achumie, the INEC, disclosed this to journalists as the voting is currently ongoing in the state.
He said, “the timing for the election has been extended infinito across the state, even if it ends at 12 midnight or 1:00 a.m. tomorrow, being Sunday, it is valid, and our people should be patient.”
While expressing regret for the situation, He said that the commission was sorry for the embarrassment of starting late, which was caused by the commercial drivers contracted for logistical movement.
