The New Nigeria People’s Party has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognise its newly elected National Working Committee that emerged from the party’s elective convention held in Lagos.
This demand was outlined in a communiqué signed by Mr. Mohammed Abdullahi, Vice-Chairman of the NNPP Convention Committee in Lagos, following the convention held at RockView Hotel in Apapa on Tuesday, February 4.
At the convention, Dr. Agbo Major was elected as the new National Chairman, along with other members of the party’s NWC. The communiqué urged INEC to officially upload and acknowledge the Major-led NWC as the “authentic, lawful, and duly elected national officers of the NNPP.”
The party also insisted that INEC must enforce the judgment of the Abia State High Court, delivered by Hon. Justice C. U. Okoroafor in Suit No. HUZ/11/2024, which directed the NNPP to conduct fresh congresses from the ward to the national level—a directive the party claims it has fully complied with.
Expressing concern over what it described as continued disobedience to the court order, the communiqué rejected the retention of the Dr. Ahmed Ajuji-led factional NWC on INEC’s server.
“The convention noted with concern that the continued existence and retention of Dr. Ahmed Ajuji-led factional NWC as reflected on the INEC server is completely a disobedience to the Abia State High Court order amongst many others,” the communiqué stated.
The party resolved that all its elected members in the House of Assembly and House of Representatives would be granted automatic tickets to re-contest in 2027 in recognition of their commitment to the party’s growth and development.
A vote of confidence was also passed on the party’s Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, for his selflessness, guidance, and unwavering support for the NNPP and its members.
The convention reaffirmed the termination of the NNPP’s Memorandum of Understanding with the Kwankwasiyya Movement and The National Movement, which had been in place before the 2023 general elections.
Finally, the party extended an open invitation to all Nigerians who share its vision of building a new Nigeria, urging them to join its ranks in the quest for national transformation through good governance.
