Obasanjo denies discussing Kanu’s release with S’East govs

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has debunked reports that he discussed the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, with South East governors during their recent meeting in Enugu.

Obasanjo clarified that the meeting focused solely on regional development issues, including security and infrastructure, and did not address Kanu’s release.

Contrary to speculation, Obasanjo emphasized that Kanu’s fate was not on the agenda, and no discussions were held regarding his freedom, according to TheNation.

The former president’s statement aims to set the record straight and dispel any misinformation surrounding the meeting’s purpose.

Obasanjo said: “Others were economic and cooperative/collaboration, which was meant to complement the national economic development agenda.

“The meeting with them was at my invitation and of Chief Emeka Anyaoku before their summit begins. The issue of Nnamdi Kanu was not on the agenda and was not discussed in my presence.”
