Obidient: Mr Macaroni disagrees with Deji Adeyanju over online campaign

Comedian, Debo Adebayo, popularly called Mr Macaroni, has disagreed with the opinion of sociopolitical activist, Deji Adeyanju, on the effects of social media campaigns ahead of the 2023 election.

Adeyanju had in a tweet to his 143.6 thousand followers played down the effects of the campaign structures of Labour Party’s Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party on Twitter and Facebook.

The activist advised that they need to ditch social media and engage politicians to form an alliance strong enough to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress and its candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in next year’s presidential election.

“Peter Obi has structures on Twitter and Kwankwaso has the same on Facebook but not on the ground in the geopolitical zones. Leave social media and go engage politicians to form an alliance to defeat APC,” Adeyanju opined.

However, Macaroni who quote-tweeted the post disagreed with Adeyanju’s stand by saying that an online campaign is as effective as an offline campaign.

Macaroni said, “Campaign on social media was very sweet to a lot of people in 2015. I don’t understand why we are suddenly asking others to leave social media. People will always campaign online. It doesn’t stop the work going on offline. It’s a plus, not a minus

“Social Media was used heavily for campaign in 2015. Asking people to leave social media is not the insult you think it is. Social media has led to massive movements offline at different occasions worldwide. Don’t let anyone gaslight you. You can campaign offline and online.

“Everything we do offline, we bring online. Work, football, music, comedy, sex and other activities. But when it comes to politics, we should leave social media. This Agenda is stale. Online and Offline Works just fine. Even your favorite politicians are very active online.”
