Okpebholo suspends revenue collection in Edo

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has announced an indefinite suspension of all state revenue collections, particularly within motor parks and other designated areas, effective immediately.

Governor Okpebholo has instructed the State Commissioner of Police to apprehend any individuals found violating this directive.

The decision, which aims to address ongoing issues within the revenue collection system, is part of a broader review the governor plans to undertake.

The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, issued a statement detailing the governor’s position and future plans.

“The collection of revenues in the State has been suspended indefinitely. Anyone seen collecting revenues on behalf of the State Government will be arrested,” the statement read.

The statement further emphasized law enforcement’s role in enforcing the suspension, noting, “The Commissioner of Police is hereby ordered to arrest anyone who flouts this directive and collects any form of revenue on behalf of the State Government.”

Governor Okpebholo has pledged to address concerns raised about the revenue collection system and to provide new directives in the near future.

“The Governor will soon address the issues and concerns raised and issue new directives. Until then, no one is authorized to collect revenues on behalf of the State Government,” the statement concluded.
