Ondo: Adeleke’s interference in traditional institution causing crisis, APC alleges

The All Progressives Congress in Ondo State has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke’s interferance in traditional institution to be causing crisis in the state.

Recall that Governor Adeleke on assumption of office in November 2022 suspended the processes that brought in the two monarchs via an Executive Order.

In January 2024 upon consideration of a review panel constituted by the state government, a White Paper nullified the processes and directed a fresh selection process.

The state government recently approved the appointment of Muritala Oyelakin as the Aree of Iree, according to Daily Post.

More so, on Friday, sources within the state government revealed that a new Owa of Igbajo has been selected in the person of Dr Ademola Makinde, though the selection has not been officially announced by the state government.

APC, in a statement by its chairman, Tajudeen Lawal in Osogbo on Saturday revealed that the appointments of both monarchs were according to the tradition and custom of the two communities.

The party opined that the development smacked the desecration of the culture and customs of the ancient towns.

“When has it become a norm for the government to reselect a monarch for a community in the Governor’s Office and make use of urchins and impostors who are not even from such a community as one-day warrant chiefs?

“It is a pity that Makinde allowed himself to be a willing tool in the hands of disgruntled political actors who are only interested in throwing the hitherto peaceful Igbajo community into avoidable turmoil.”

The party described the emergence of Makinde as “illegal arrangement,” stressing that it is “enough of the ridiculing of all Osun traditional and academic institutions.”

“How can such an impostor monarch who emerges from such an illegal arrangement earn and command the respect of the people who did not have an input in his illegal re-selection?

“Enough of the ridiculing of all Osun traditional and academic institutions by the kick-and-start Governor Adeleke out of his lack of grasp of anything in governance, management, or even rationality,” the party added.
