Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State to rally overwhelming support for the party’s candidate, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, in the upcoming governorship election on Saturday.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, signed by his media adviser Paul Ibe, Atiku described Ajayi as a seasoned politician capable of leading the party to victory and improving the welfare of the people in Ondo State.
He emphasized that the election presents a chance for the people to elevate the state’s prosperity.
Atiku further criticized the All Progressives Congress, describing it as an unpopular party with little regard for the welfare of the people.
“The governorship election that is coming up in Ondo State this Saturday presents an opportunity for the people of Ondo State to elevate the condition of the state into increased prosperity.
“The APC, as it has been made clear to everyone, is a grossly unpopular party which does not have the interest of the people as a core objective,” he said.
He urged Ondo State voters to use the election to reject the APC and back Hon. Ajayi, pledging that PDP leaders would provide full support to ensure the election process reflects the true will of the electorate.
The former Vice President also issued a strong warning to election management officials and volunteers, stressing that the PDP would stand against any form of malpractice during the election.
Atiku concluded by urging the people of Ondo to turn out in large numbers to vote and ensure their ballots count.
He emphasized the importance of vigilance and encouraged the electorate to be proactive in safeguarding the integrity of the election.
“The people of Ondo State have an opportunity in Hon. Ajayi of the PDP to tell the APC that enough is enough.
“As leaders of the party, we shall provide all necessary support to ensure that the APC is not allowed to repress the wishes of the electorate in this election.
“This is also a sound warning to all election management officials and volunteers that the PDP will stand firmly against any malpractice in the Ondo governorship election.
“When the tide is high, it becomes too big to rig. The people of Ondo State are known for their forthrightness, and this particular election calls for eternal vigilance,” Atiku noted.
