Popular Afrobeat singer, David Adeleke, well-known as Davido, and controversial street-pop artiste, Habeeb Okikiola, aka Portable have been at loggerhead, canvassing support for their candidates in the Osun governorship election.
While Davido has since 2018 thrown his weight behind his Uncle, Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party, Portable in roughshod against him, supports the incumbent All Progressives Congress, Adegboyega Oyetola.
Davido had relocated to Osun, participating in the parties rally, wooing the electorates to vote for his uncle, Adeleke in the election which will kick off in a few hours, while Portable had taken to social media, asking voters to choose the ruling party.
On Thursday, July 14, the ‘Stand Strong’ crooner showed his spiritual side as he led a prayer session before the PDP set out for a campaign rally.
Clad in an agbada (flowing robe) with the inscription ‘Imole lokan’ which literally means ‘it is the turn of light’ the singer could be seen in the midst of a crowd of supporters. On his Instagram page, he wrote, “No intimidation, no violence. No retreat, no surrender.!!! Imole de!! #osunguber #2022 awa lokan.”
His counterpart, Portable in a post on social media displayed a bag of cash shortly after a meeting with the governor, where he expressed his support for the APC.
He had earlier stated that he had been paid to support Bola Tinubu, the All-Progressive Congress presidential candidate. In a video which went viral, the ‘Zaazu’ singer said, “If they pay you money, you have to work. I was once paid to insult Tinubu during the protests. That was a long time ago. Now, APC has said ‘Akoi Tinubu’.
“If they pay you, do your job; no ripping. When I was asked to insult Tinubu, I collected my money and did the job. Now, Tinubu is the next. They’re the ones that gave me money, and I must do the work for the money I collected. Akoi APC.”
Following his support for APC, the ‘Zaazu’ crooner in a report by this publication said Davido had unfollowed him, adding that he’s only doing what he’s doing because he was given money.
He said, “Open your ears and listen. My father isn’t a rich ma..I am not the son of a rich man, I’m from the trenches.
“I am the one that brought riches to my family. Open your ears so my words can enter.
“I am running and hustling in this manner and it’s simply because of money. And also to avert suffering. So that that that which my family had to endure doesn’t also become my portion.
“Once again, my father wasn’t a rich man. I come from the trenches but managed to bring my family into wealth. So support who support you. They wasted no time in unfollowing us,”
