The All Progressives Congress has called on Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to comply with the Court of Appeal ruling reinstating APC local government chairmen and councillors.
Mr. Kola Olabisi, the party’s Osun chapter Director of Media and Publicity, made the appeal during a news conference in Abuja on Sunday, where he addressed the ongoing political situation in Osun State.
Olabisi emphasized that governance should prioritize democracy dividends, truth, and due process, rather than political vendettas. He criticized the persistent discord between Governor Adeleke and his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola, who now serves as the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy. Olabisi described the conflict as a political mockery that tarnishes Osun’s reputation for political wisdom and intelligence.
“We are deeply concerned about the political mockery in Osun, a state known for the intelligence and political astuteness of its people,” Olabisi stated.
He expressed concern over the negative media attention Osun has received for three weeks due to Adeleke’s refusal to implement the Court of Appeal’s ruling reinstating the sacked APC local government chairmen. Olabisi also expressed disappointment that Adeleke ignored advice from the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police to respect the court’s decision.
“The ongoing political crisis shows that Governor Adeleke has lost public trust. He is now struggling to maintain control,” Olabisi said.
He urged Adeleke to implement the Court of Appeal’s February 10 judgment in the interest of the rule of law. Olabisi defended Oyetola’s administration, stating that all legal and procedural requirements were followed during his tenure. He dismissed claims that procurement rules were violated as misleading, noting that contracts awarded under Oyetola adhered strictly to the State Public Procurement Law.
“The committee making these accusations was created by the new administration to target Oyetola. This is political persecution, not a genuine anti-corruption effort,” Olabisi asserted.
Addressing allegations of money laundering against the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, Olabisi dismissed the claims as unproven and lacking credible evidence. He argued that without bank records or an independent audit report, allegations of fund mismanagement and illicit cash withdrawals remained baseless.
“For clarity, the $20.467 million was converted into ₦6.26 billion and credited by the CBN to Osun Government’s account. The CBN records confirm this,” Olabisi explained.
He emphasized that governance should prioritize truth and due process, not political retribution. Olabisi challenged Adeleke’s administration to present credible evidence in court if it had any, rather than resorting to politically motivated accusations.
“Oyetola’s legacy is one of responsible leadership. No politically motivated accusations can erase his achievements,” Olabisi added.
He highlighted Oyetola’s accomplishments, including upgrading 332 primary healthcare centers, rehabilitating the General Hospital in Ejigbo Local Government, and constructing a world-class 120-bed ward at the State Specialist Hospital, Asubiaro. Olabisi also noted that Oyetola’s administration improved medical facilities across Osun State, leaving a lasting legacy of development and progress.
