Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State on Monday swore in Justice Lekan Ogunmoye as the state’s acting Chief Judge following the recent passing of the former chief judge, Justice Oyewole Adeyeye, on November 4.
During the ceremony at the Governor’s Office in Ado-Ekiti, Oyebanji emphasized the importance of continuity in judicial services, noting that “nature abhors a vacuum.”
He explained that the inauguration was in line with the authority vested in him by Section 271 (4) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.
“I know we are all emotional, but this is what we have to do. Nature abhors vacuum. Condolences to all of us, and may the good Lord rest the soul of the departed chief judge in Jesus’ name,” Oyebanji expressed.
The governor congratulated Ogunmoye on his new role, acknowledging that the occasion called for both reflection and resolve. He encouraged the acting chief judge to apply his considerable skills, dedication, and professionalism to enhance the state’s justice sector.
In his acceptance remarks, Ogunmoye expressed gratitude to Governor Oyebanji for the appointment, pledging to uphold justice for the sustained development of Ekiti State.
He commended the governor for his steadfast support of the judiciary, which he said has flourished under Oyebanji’s administration due to the governor’s commitment and enthusiasm for strengthening the judicial arm of government.
Ogunmoye requested continued collaboration and government support to build upon the “impressive legacies” of his predecessors. He also expressed his intention to modernize the justice system, transitioning from analogue to digital processes, and called for improvements to the welfare of judiciary workers to support efficient and prompt justice delivery.
