The African Action Congress in Oyo State has debunked claims that the party, through its former chairman, Rotimi Ogunlana, has made an alliance with the All Progressives Congress in the state ahead of the forthcoming governorship and State House of Assembly elections.

The AAC in a statement signed by its Oyo State Chairman, Kayode Babayomi, denounced itself from such alliance, insisting that the party has no business with a character like Ogunlana who was expelled from the party a year ago by the state leadership “over similar corrupt activities”.

According to SaharaReporters, the party stated that it is not a vehicle for anti-people negotiations or alliances, adding that it has not endorsed any individual or political party, despite that its governorship candidate, Mojeed Okedara, has been expelled for anti-party activities.

The statement read, “The attention of the Oyo State Working Committee of the African Action Congress (AAC) has been drawn to a publication wherein one Rotimi Ogunlana is being described as a ‘pioneer chairman of AAC’, using such to negotiate and curry favours from the governorship candidate of the APC, Mr Teslim Folarin.

“The party has no business with such character as he has been expelled a year ago by the state leadership over similar corrupt activities.

“We wish to restate that the AAC is not a vehicle for anti-people negotiations or alliances. We have not endorsed any individual or political party, despite the fact that the gubernatorial candidate of our party, one Mr Mojeed Okedara has been expelled for anti-party activities. This is already public knowledge.

“We will be contesting in the next Governorship and Houses of Assembly elections in the state and we urge the good people of Oyo not to fall for these fraudulent elements and their tactics of distraction.

“We remain focused on the goal of liberation and we urge every eligible voter to vote in our Candidates come Saturday, March 18th, 2023. The clarification is that the governorship ticket, just like other offices, is sponsored by the party.

“Our party is strictly guided by its constitution and ideology and will never compromise.

“We wish to advise the panicky Teslim Folarin of the APC to go take back whatever inducement he has offered Ogunlana, because he has no electoral value.”
