Popular Nigerian Pastor Jerry Eze, the founder of Streams of Joy Church and convener of the NSPPD prayer platform, has come under fire following a testimony by Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, during a church service.
In a viral video that surfaced on Sunday, Governor Okpebholo expressed gratitude to God for his victory in the Edo State governorship election, attributing his success to divine intervention. During the testimony, the moderator stated that God often uses “foolish things” to prove His sovereignty.
The event has sparked widespread outrage online, with many Nigerians accusing Pastor Jerry Eze of desecrating the pulpit and enabling what they see as a mockery of God.
Ose Anenih, son of former Minister of Works Tony Anenih, criticized Pastor Eze, writing on X (formerly Twitter) under the handle #ose-anenih: “God will not be mocked. #RealJerryEze.”
@iam_TUNADEZ remarked, “After rigging an election, @m_akpakomiza has the confidence to go and testify in church following the shameless selection conducted by INEC and the APC. I don’t blame him, I blame the Church that gives these politicians the platform to turn their altars into ‘theater of lies.’”
@Living_piece commented, “No difference between politicians and pastors. Both are criminals.”
@flourish007 wrote, “What APCheat cannot do does not exist!”
“This is the man who can’t even read his own budget figures. If you believe Edo abandoned two competent candidates to vote for the worst of them all, you might want to reconsider,” @flourish007 added.
@_fehintoluwa tweeted, “The way to avoid this in a church is to prevent politicians, irrespective of party, from speaking on the pulpit. The moment you allow one, you can’t stop others. If there was a general rule that politicians are not allowed on the pulpit, this won’t happen.”
@mrmiddlebelt stated, “You will never see Pastor Chris Oyakhilome welcome any politician to take the microphone and speak to the congregation! Never. If they come to church, let them sit and listen to the word of God, give their offering, and go home like every other member!”
@dozieezedol added, “If this happened, @RealJerryEze, this is wrong! Even Jehovah knows how this man came into power.”
