PDP chieftain hails Ogie’s selection as Edo deputy gov candidate

A medical practitioner and member of the recently constituted Campaign Council by the Peoples Democratic Party for the forthcoming governorship election in Edo State, Dr. Phillip Igbinadolor, has commended Mr. Osarodion Ogie on his selection as the Deputy governorship candidate of the party.

Igbinadolor expressed confidence in Ogie’s candidacy, seeing it as a positive indication that the PDP would continue to hold power in the state beyond 2024.

He stated, “The decision of the People’s Democratic Party in the state is not only apt and faultless but the choice largely reflects the action of a political party of goodwill desirous of ensuring that the state remains in safe hands.

“I am particularly impressed with the state Governor’s decision to field and support two illustrious and brightest sons of the state for these exalted positions.

“By his latest action, the Governor has, in my views, further demonstrated that he is an intelligent public office holder who recognizes that the first responsibility of a great leader is to find the right people and give them their right position.

“As a former Commissioner in the state, former Chief of Staff to the Governor and presently, the Secretary to State Government, Barrister Osarodion Ogie is not only desirable but eminently qualified. He is miles ahead of others jostling for the position in other political parties.

“More specifically, former Chief of Staff to the Governor and presently, the Secretary to State Government, he respectively functioned as the engine room of the administration and democratized administrative operation in the government in ways that stripped the state and its operation of all forms of bureaucracies inherited from the outgone All Progressive Congress led government in the state.”

The Edo State governorship election is scheduled for September 21, 2024, with the Independent National Electoral Commission having released the full details of the governorship candidates.

The major opposition party, the All Progressives Congress, has fielded Senator Monday Okpebholo as its candidate. The APC has been gaining momentum with notable figures from the PDP defecting to the party ahead of the election.

The PDP’s campaign has been bolstered by endorsements from significant religious organizations for their candidates, Dr. Asue Ighodalo for governor and Barr. Osarodion Ogie for deputy governor. These developments set the stage for a highly contested election, with the PDP aiming to retain control and the APC seeking to reclaim governance in the state.
